ITINERARY

KHUKH LAKE OF KHAR ZURKH

We will head to east for a historical lake, Khukh lake of Khar zurkh where Temuujin was enthroned as the leader of Mongol tribes and entitled as “Chinggis Khan” meaning “Great king as Ocean of Mongoli” in 1189. Thus, the round shaped ger base like stones with nearly fifteen meters of diameters on the southern side of the Khukh Lake of Khar zurkh are hypothesized to be the base of a palace that could have been built for Chinggis khan when he acceded to the throne. The Secret History of Mongols, a single most significant chronicle book of Chinggis Khaan’s life, mentions Khukh lake and f Khar Zurkh as places where many important historical events took place. Explore the area with your guide and spend evening knowing more about our history.

BALDAN BEREEVEN MONASTERY AND UGLUGCH WALL

Soon after leaving the lake, we will stop by an interesting monastery, Baldan Bereeven. At its peak it was one of the three largest monasteries in Mongolia and home to 5000 lamas. After communist forces destroyed it in the 1930s, it has now been mostly restored and the main temple with splendid dragon motifs on the ceiling was renovated in 2010. Around 10 lamas are back and we may see the monks’ chanting. Then we will head to east for Uglugch wall, also called as “Ancestors’ wall” which is 3.2 km long stone wall has 60 ancient graves indicated as royal cemetery were found within. Locals call a lanky rocky cliff inside the wall as a horse rope of Chinggis khan. After exploring the area, we will drive shortly to Rashaant rock where you will see a number of Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic remains including deer statues dating to early Bronze Age and excavated ancient grave sites.

BIRTH PLACE OF CHINGGIS KHAAN 

After having breakfast, we will travel to unique hills named Deluun Boldog, the birth place of Chinggis khan. Temuujin, childhood name of Chinggis khan, was born here in 1162. The area is attractive wooded part in Khentii region and contains trails and lakes as well as monuments where you can learn why this fierce warrior and great leader is still revered today. This place is associated with the worship of sacred hill, Onon river and shamanic rock cairns and has many historical sight such as a statue of Genghis Khan was erected in 1962 for his 800th birthday, Khajuu Bulag, the spring where Chinggis khan was washed after he was born according to the chronicle book of Secret Mongolian History. Tomorrow we have whole day to explore the king’s homeland.

EXPLORING DELUUN BOLDOG

Today we will explore the area, see many historical remains while relaxing in the beautiful nature. This scenic and serene foresty area is rich in wildlife, lakes, rivers, and springs. You will see many local visitors ceremonially climbing and paying respect at the cairn on the top of Deluun Boldog Hill. In the afternoon, we will also have a chance to visit one of the nomadic families and experience the local hospitality. You will have many ways to experience the nomadic way of life such as having conversation with family members, helping them with their daily jobs, herding animals or observing the customs. You will like tasting our traditional dairy products including salty milk tea, dairy products. Here you can relax mentally by hearing the stream of historical Balj river surrounded by wood.

MONGOL QUEEN PALACE OF RESPECT 

After relaxing day in Deluun Boldog, we will head back to west. The Mongol Queen Palace of Respect was established at Duurlig Nars mound in Bayan-Adarga soum of Khentii province in 2011, the land of wise queens of Mongolian statehood history. The last queens of Bogd Javzandamba khaan of Mongol, famous in our history by their intelligence, Dondogdulam and Genenpil were grew up in this area. You will meet our queens who made great effort in our history from this palace. Then we will continue our adventure to Khuduu Aral, a plain about 30 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide on the meander of the Kherlen river. This site is closely connected with the chronicle book "The Secret history of the Mongols" which was finished exactly here.

TSONJIN BOLDOG AND TERELJ NATIONAL PARK

Soon after leaving the Khuduu aral, the Chinggis khan first appears on the horizon as a twinkling speck, rising on the plains like a shimmering mirage. Chinggis Khan Statue Complex is a 131-foot (40 m) tall statue of Chinggis khan on horseback, on the bank of the Tuul river at Tsonjin Boldog where according to legend, he found a golden whip. The statue is symbolically pointed east towards his birthplace. It is on top of the Chinggis Khan Statue Complex, a visitor centre,  itself 10 meters tall with 36 columns representing the 36 khans from Chinggis to Ligden khan. After exploring the statue complex, we will travel shortly to beautiful Terelj National Park.

 

 

 

MORNING IN TERELJ NATIONAL PARK AND BACK TO ULAANBAATAR 

The Terelj National Park is the most popular destination and the third biggest protected area in Mongolia. Visitors can take leisurely strolls on meadows carpeted with edelweiss and a dazzling variety of other wild flowers, view fascinating rock formations against a backdrop of pine covered mountains and wander along the wooded banks of a mountain stream. After breakfast, we will go for horse riding for 1-2 hours and visit a small local monastery named Aryabala.  Also, stop by a Turtle Rock which is the popular highlights of the area. After joyful hours, we will head back to Ulaanbaatar in the late afternoon. We will have farewell dinner together and take you to the hotel. Seven days of Mongolian adventure will end here, but stay forever in our hearts.
